This study examined how people with developmental disabilities are represented in video content posted on Damoa, and what roles and characters they are portrayed as. We also conducted in-depth interviews with video content creators to understand their perceptions of the representation of people with disabilities in the media. Through this, we aimed to identify educational and institutional improvements to ensure that people with developmental disabilities are represented without bias and to create useful video content. The analysis showed that people with developmental disabilities are still portrayed as recipients of assistance, peripheral characters, and narrators, but some of the videos showed the possibility of a new narrative with characters who are in charge of their own lives. On the other hand, while video content creators were aware of the need to portray and frame disability in a way that would be interpreted in accordance with Higgins' model of human diversity, we found that due to time constraints and cost, disabled performers were often placed on the periphery. This is a limitation of the process of portraying people with disabilities in accordance with the production schedule organized and planned by non-disabled people, and a structural problem that emerged as the performers with developmental disabilities were filmed as peripherals due to time constraints regardless of their will. Therefore, in order to properly portray and represent people with disabilities, it is necessary to ensure time and material resources in addition to learning and understanding education to improve the awareness of people with disabilities among the video content creators.
